Supporting Faculty Professional Development
The 2007 Benefit Committee is pleased to announce that proceeds from this year’s event will provide support for faculty professional development. Although each year’s theme and venue differ, the purpose of each Benefit is always the same, to foster our community and to raise money for ongoing needs. In contrast to the Annual Fund, which is an essential component to help balance the School’s annual budget, the proceeds raised from the Benefit provide funding for a variety of long term needs.
Identified as an important goal in the Strategic Plan, approved by the Brearley Board of Trustees in May 2006, increased funding for faculty professional development will give the faculty “the opportunity to share in the larger marketplace of ideas and practices outside the School — through degree programs, workshops and courses, and visits to and interchange with colleagues in other schools. The engagement of teachers in their own passions feeds their work at Brearley.”
While current funding for faculty professional development makes possible educational opportunities for many of our faculty, additional funding is needed to enable each faculty member the opportunity to participate in at least one conference, program, class or workshop annually. Costs of these opportunities are high, particularly some of the most valuable ones offered at degree granting institutions. With generous funding from the proceeds of the Benefit, the School will be able to broaden its faculty professional development opportunities to many more faculty.
Everyone can help by buying a ticket to the Benefit or, if possible, offering underwriting support. For more information on underwriting opportunities, visit our Underwriters Page.
